You Should Know: Ernestine Johnson

We recently had a chance to witness a talented rising star in her spoken word element and the results left us wanting more! Ernestine Johnson is well on her way to becoming your new favorite, but don’t consider her the average black girl…

Infamous for being raw, uncensored, and untamed on the mic, compelling actress and internationally recognized spoken-word artist, Ernestine Johnson was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. At the tender age of ten years old, Ernestine started acting and developed a love for the craft.

You may have seen her in Fox’s “Shots Fired” or  her debut leading role opposite DC young fly in the film #DigitalLivesMatter airing on the Urban Movie Channel. Her theater credits include, Local Celebrity, Grease, A Raisin in The Sun and Fools. While perfecting her craft in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Ernestine started her public speaking career as the Red-Carpet host for McKinley Presents Ent. in Las Vegas for Vegas TV. As a Red-carpet host, she conducted interviews with various celebrities which led to her co-hosting a radio segment on KCEP Power 88.1. With her breakout performance of her original spoken word piece “Average Black Girl” live on The Arsenio Hall Show, went viral with over 40 million views.

With the success of “Average Black Girl”, Ernestine followed up with “Red Bottoms” that also took the internet by storm. Ernestine went on to perform live on the OWN Network’s hit show “It’s Not You It’s Men,” hosted by Tyrese and Rev Run. In continuing her journey to change the world one word at a time, Ernestine is currently on the 25 city #BuyBacktheBlock Poetry tour.
